For a world so deeply realized, it feels pointless, as a world without history or purpose just a video game stage for you to have dumb fun. This is not about if I understood it or not, but for you to get the tiniest amount of lore you have to activate 20 random towers around the world to get a single paragraph of story. And probably my biggest issue is how cryptic and uninviting the narrative is. Bosses are where combat shines, but some were so campy and defensive that when I beat them it didn't feel rewarding, I just had to cheese them to win. Combat is satisfying and rewarding but this game's idea of a challenge is throwing 10 of the most obnoxious enemies at once and you to be okay with it. Sure, is a fun action game but I'm more in love with its art-style (That looks like if A Link to the Past and Blade Runner had a baby) and music than I am of its mechanics. Other then that this game is incredibly rad.ġ5h 29m PlayedThis is one of those games that plays a gentle, somber piano piece while the credits roll and expect you to think its a life changing experience, the thing is that while it has the atmosphere of one, it doesn't has the devotion or quality of one. Again the only real problem of the game is when the awards of optional secrets is lore rather then something cool like a new weapon or a cosmetic. Suitable soundtrack which really supports the atmosphere. Gameplay is tight and fun with many weapons and upgrades used to trounce enemies. Amazing pixel art and art style of an incredibly cool world. Everything is else is really solid such as. However even if you do decipher all of them the plot dosen't really make much more sense. Although I would recommend to decipher them yourself using a guide. (And maybe the 800 dash achievement), There's also the monoliths which aren't worth pursuing due to the fact that you can easily google them. I hope Solar Ash fixes some of the issues with this game.ĥh 2m PlayedI haven't played this game in like 7 years but it's held up really well! The only real flaws of the game is the lack of satisfying awards for tackling the more challenging optional areas. Despite all my complaints, it was a short and enjoyable game with great visuals. Too many of the enemies are simple fodder that can be killed by spamming the sword attacks, The Shotgun weapon does way too much damage, completely one-shotting tougher brute enemies and does massive damage to bosses. The downside is that everything before the South is very easy and lacks in enemy variety, which is definitely a shame. The difficulty really starts to pick up in the South desert area with a lot of genuinely challenging bosses. ![]() You WILL need to find some secrets to beat the game since certain main story parts are hidden behind secrets passages. There will be a certain small symbol that will be on the ground near secrets which helps you figure out where hidden passages and invisible platforms are. There are a LOT of secrets in the game, but they aren't exactly completely hidden. The main gameplay loop consists of exploring an area, fighting enemies, finding secrets, then ending each area off with a boss fight. ![]() I also played on hardest difficulty that was available at the start, which was not as hard as many other people make it out to be. Thankfully, you CAN change it in the settings, but I found out about it half-way through the game. I don't understand why that's the case since every top-down action game has always made dash separately tied to WASD. The first thing is that I played with Mouse & Keyboard and the game for some reason ties the direction of your dash towards where you're aiming with your mouse, which you use to aim your gun and sword attacks. The overall gameplay is good, but there are some issues I have with it. Don't go into this game expecting an incredible story. Much of the story is left for the player's own interpretation. There is zero dialogue between any characters. The music is fine, it was mostly quiet and more ambient environmental sounds, which fits with the game's story, which is extremely minimalistic. That was the first thing that caught my attention when I saw this game and it's likely that's also the first thing many others noticed as well. ![]() The visuals are unique and have a strange neon sci-fi aesthetic. 11h PlayedA short top-down action adventure game.
